Flared Table Tumbler

Item Number:  77
Approximate Size:  4⅛″ H; 8 oz.
Production Dates:  1915-1974

Fostoria American Flared Table TumblerThe Flared Table Tumbler is one of my most favorite pieces.  The flared design is especially pleasing to me, and I find the pieces to be quite elegant and beautiful.  There also is a Flared Ice Tea, which is bigger in design and holds about 12 ounces.  The Flared Table Tumbler pictured here holds about 8 oz. and is approximately 4⅛″ high.

This particular Tumbler was also one of the pioneering pieces in the original 1915 supplement catalog of the American line #2056.  Therefore, this piece has a long history and was produced for over half a century.  The Flared Table Tumbler was discontinued in the 1970s, so it will not be as plentiful in the aftermarket as the Flared Ice Tea.

Regular Table Tumbler

Item Number:  76
Approximate Size:  3⅞″ H; 8 oz.
Production Dates:  1915-1982

One of the pioneering pieces in the American pattern, the Regular Table Tumbler was produced for many years and proved to be a favorite by consumers.  Unlike many other Tumblers in the American line, it is not footed in design.  The Regular Table Tumbler will have straight sides. It will hold about 8 oz. and has an approximate height of 3⅞ inches.

Fostoria produced an abundance of Tumblers in the American pattern.  As an eBay Partner, I may be compensated if you make a purchase on eBay.  The following link shows available Tumblers on eBay.

Regular Table Tumbler Storage BoxesTo help prevent damage and to allow for easy identification of my tumblers, I prefer to use storage boxes.  Full Disclosure: I am an Amazon Associate; thus, I earn from qualifying purchases. The Homyfort storage boxes with dividers have worked very well for me.

A variety of storage boxes from different suppliers are available online; however, I like having the transparent window panel that allows me to see the contents instantly.  There is enough room in each compartment that I can even store wrapped tumblers, too.  The side handles are reinforced and can hold the hefty weight of the glass.  The box is easy to move, and when not in use, it can easily collapse and be stored flat.

The attractive boxes help keep my pantry very organized, and can do the same for you!

Claret

Item Number:  25
Height:  4⅞″
Production Dates:  1976-1982

Fostoria | American | ClaretsThe Claret is one of the more unique and fascinating pieces in the American line of footed stemware.  It was only produced for a few years before the Fostoria Glass Company closed its doors; therefore, it is not as plentiful in the aftermarket as some other Fostoria American pieces.  It was produced in two variations.  It can be found with a straight rim (regular) or a flared rim.

The American pattern was introduced in 1915.  Over the many years that the Fostoria Glass Company was in business, the dining and drinking habits of American households had changed.  Fostoria would make adaptations along the way by introducing new pieces that correlated to the current trend of the day.  I believe the Claret was one of those pieces.  It was not introduced until 1976, and it was bigger than the previous Wine piece that only held about 2½ oz.   In contrast, the Claret has a capacity of 7 ounces and is approximately 4⅞” in height.

Tea Cream and Sugar Set

Item Number:  691
Length:  6¾″
Production Dates:  1939-1974 (Cream & Sugar) and 1938-1982 (Tray)

Two different 3-Piece Cream and Sugar Sets were manufactured throughout the Fostoria years, with the Tea Cream and Sugar Set being introduced last.  Of the two sets made, the Tea Cream and Sugar Set is the smallest.  The Tea Sugar is about 2¼” tall, and it did not come with a lid or cover.  The Tea Cream is about 2½” tall, with a holding capacity of approximately 2½ ounces.

The Set included a third item – a Sugar and Cream Tray.  The Tray portion is about 6¾” in length, and when measured from handle to handle – it is approximately 8″ long. The top glass portion of the tray area is smooth, allowing for the Cream and Sugar to sit evenly.  This same tray is used for both the Individual and the Tea Cream and Sugar Sets.

While the Tea Cream and Sugar are the mini-versions of all the cream and sugars produced, they are also the least plentiful.  They did not have as long a production life as their bigger siblings in the 2056 line.

Individual Cream and Sugar Set

Item Number:  686
Length:  6¾″
Production Dates:  1915-1982 (Cream & Sugar) and 1938-1982 (Tray)

Two different Cream and Sugar Sets were manufactured throughout the Fostoria years, with the Individual Cream and Sugar Set being produced first.  In fact, it is one of the original items that debuted in the 1915 launch of the Fostoria American pattern.  The Tea Cream and Sugar Set (including the Tray) was produced several years later.

The following measurements are approximate, as each item was handmade and can vary slightly.  The Individual Sugar is about 2½” tall, and it does not include a cover or lid.  The Individual Cream is about 3″ tall and has a holding capacity of approximately 4 ounces.  The Set included a third item, a Sugar and Cream Tray.  The Tray portion is about 6¾” in length, and when measured from handle to handle – it is approximately 8″ long.  The same Tray was used for both the Individual and Tea-sized Cream and Sugar Sets.

Fostoria American Individual Sugar & CreamAs mentioned earlier, the Individual Cream and Sugar was first introduced in 1915.  These two pieces were continuously produced until 1982, which is a remarkable benchmark.  The 8″ Tray was not introduced until 1938; however, it also remained in production until 1982.

Tom & Jerry ~ Handled Baby/Youth Mug

Item Number:  708
Approximate Size:  3¼″ H; 5½ oz.
Production Dates:  1935-1944 T&J; 1980-1981 Handled Baby/Youth Mug

The Tom and Jerry is a beautiful little piece.  It is approximately 3¼″ tall, and holds about 5½ ounces.  Contrary to what many people think, this mug was originally designed for adults – not children.  It was first introduced around 1935, at a time when a traditional yuletide cocktail was very popular in the United States.  The name of this hot cocktail was a “Tom & Jerry”.

At the time Fostoria introduced the Tom and Jerry Mug into its American line, they categorized this piece as a “Liquor Item”.  It is, indeed, the perfect size for a warm cocktail.  Eventually, the drink of the same name started to lose its popularity.  It would seem that separating twelve eggs and garnishing each drink with wintry spices was quite labor intensive for many folks – no matter how good the cocktail was.  The Tom and Jerry Mug stayed in production through 1944; thereafter, it stayed in retirement for many years.

Fostoria American Tom and Jerry Mug - FGSAWhen it was later reintroduced, it was known simply as a Handled Mug, Item 708.  Due to its smaller size, this particular mug was included in the American Boxed Youth Gift Set.  The set included a Handled Mug (aka Tom and Jerry Mug), a Bowl, and a 6″ Youth Plate.  Even though Fostoria’s official name for this piece was now the Handled Mug, it is commonly referred to as the “Baby and/or Youth Mug” by many collectors.

Fostoria Glass produced the Tom and Jerry Mugs in clear crystal.  The colored Handled Mugs (Ruby, Cobalt, and White Milk Glass) were produced by Mosser Glass, commissioned by the Fostoria Glass Society of America.  The “FGSA” initials can be seen on the bottom of the mug.  The White Milk Glass variation is the latest addition, introduced in 2024.
