This is the Fostoria American Handled Cake Tray (with a metal handle). While it is called a Cake Tray, it can be used to serve a variety of other foods, other than cake. It has an approximate diameter of 10½″ and has a shiny metal handle in the center of the plate tray. The metal handle is substantial, and looks somewhat like a question mark.
Unlike some of the other Fostoria American cake stands and servers, this piece was only produced for about a decade. An older piece of the Fostoria American pattern, it will not be as plentiful on the open market … but still, one can usually buy the Handled Cake Tray without too much difficulty.
My fascination with this particular version of the Fostoria American cake servers is that it is different. It has a chrome metal handle that shines, and a plate tray that reflects light brilliantly. It is beautiful and elegant … but understated. Perfect for just about any occasion – formal, or otherwise.

While the bigger cake servers in the American pattern had official names such as “Salver”, Fostoria Glass Company simply called this piece a “Cake Stand”. It is approximately 10½” in diameter, and about 4″ high. Though not as big as it’s siblings, it is still a beautiful and elegant cake server.
While this Cake Stand was produced in the latter part of Fostoria’s reign, as such – it had a shorter production life. It is slightly lighter in weight (though still heavy) than the Round and Square Salvers, and it bears a different design on the plate’s edge. The edges flow upward, with graceful curves or points. Another difference worth pointing out is that this piece does not have an indentation (or “well”) in the center glass.
The Fostoria American Cake stand is definitely a beautiful and wonderful piece, and would be a lovely asset to have in your American collection.

The Fostoria American 10″ Round Salver is a thing of beauty. Most people simply refer to it as a Cake Plate; however, Fostoria Glass Company called it their 10-in. Round Salver. Fostoria also made a Square Salver; however, it is the round version that had a longer production life and is usually easier to find. Both versions are equally gorgeous.
This piece of Fostoria glass is heavy and substantial. Indeed, it is no light-weight and weighs in at 5 lbs. It is about 10″ in diameter, with an approximate height of 7¼”. Made for many years, it’s production ended in the early 1980’s. Afterwards, Fostoria produced a new Cake Stand – which was smaller and less expensive.
Fostoria made several different pieces that could be used for serving cake – from trays with glass handles to those with metal handles. There is even a “Tid Bit Set” that is most perfect for serving pre-cut pieces of cake. Even though the official names of the pieces might not have had “cake” in them, their excellent design offers you a variety of cake-serving options.
The Fostoria Glass Company did not offer glass covers or domes for their American Round or Square Salvers. Even so, you might still be able to find a glass dome that will suit your needs. Much will depend on the type of dessert you are serving, along with its height and diameter measurement.

Presented here is the 10 oz. Fostoria American Goblet, which has a hexagonal foot. These items are quite substantial and are approximately 6⅞″ tall. These goblets have a long stem, which adds to their stature and beauty. Though introduced over 100 years ago – they still look timeless today. They are a classic, indeed.
The Goblet and the Wine both have a hexagonal foot. Their design is very similar to each other, except for their size. The Goblet is the bigger of the two, and has a holding capacity of approximately 9-10 ounces.

Many people classify this Fostoria American Footed Tumbler as a Goblet; however, that is not accurate. Fostoria made both Goblets and Tumblers, in addition to a variety of other stemware. While this Tumbler’s overall design is very similar to a Goblet, the difference can be found in the actual stem. This Footed Tumbler features a much shorter stem.
One of the things I like best about the clear crystal pieces is their versatility. For example, this 5 oz. Footed Tumbler will look great on any table setting – no matter the color or design. This piece can be used to serve fruit juices, tea, soft drinks, and other chilled beverages.
The Footed Tumbler holds approximately 5 ounces and is about 4¾″ tall. It was an extremely popular item in the Fostoria American line, and was produced from 1934-1982.

Featured in this post is the last official version of the American Salad Bowl. It was produced from the 8″ Deep Nappy (522), flaring out the sides to give it a more conical shape. Even though this piece was available in the 3 Pc. Salad Set, it was also available as a separate purchase.
This Salad Bowl was also available in a Ruby color. The American 2056 line also offered a Ruby 14″ Torte Plate, which one could pair with the Ruby Salad Bowl. Even though the Ruby pieces were never offered as an official salad set within the line, they could easily be used and paired in the same fashion as the crystal pieces. With the addition of wood utensils, the hostess could then enjoy a beautiful and colorful way to serve salad.
