Regular Tumbler

Item Number:  89
Approximate Size:  3⅝″ H; 5 oz.
Production Dates:  1939-1982

Fostoria American Reg Tumbler 5 oz.Fostoria Glass Company made several variations of Tumblers in the American pattern.  This particular one is the 5 oz. Regular Tumbler.  It is called a “Regular” Tumbler because its sides are straight – not flared.

It is one of the smaller Tumblers in the line, and is approximately 3⅝″ tall.  Personally, I think it is the perfect size for serving orange juice or V-8 juice.  They make a nice presentation on a breakfast or brunch table and are lovely to look at (much nicer than serving juice from a can).

These Tumblers were produced for several years so you should be able to find them fairly easily.  As an eBay Partner, I may be compensated if you make a purchase on eBay.  The following link shows available juice Tumblers on eBay.

Handled Sherbet

Item Number:  D-04
Approximate Size:  3½″ H; 4½ oz.
Production Dates:  1915-1943

The Fostoria American Handled Sherbet was one of the pioneering pieces of the American 2056 line.  It is really a beautiful piece – very versatile, and bearing a slim handle on its side.  It was discontinued around World War II; therefore, it had a shorter production life than many other American pieces.

The Handled Sherbet is approximately 3½″ tall, and can hold about 4½ ounces.  I believe it to be one of the more unusual pieces in the 2056 line, and am especially drawn to it.  No matter how you use it – either for a drink or a dessert – it is truly a beautiful piece to behold.

Oyster Cocktail ~ Sherbet

Item Number:  33
Height:  3½″
Production Dates:  1915-1973

This is the Fostoria American Oyster Cocktail; however, when it was first introduced in 1915 – it was called a “Sherbet”.  Though it is the same dish, its name did change throughout the years. As time passed it was simply called an Oyster Cocktail, and so it remained.  It is approximately 3½″ tall and can hold about 4½ ounces.  With a bowl and a stem, this is a unique and interesting dish in the Fostoria American line.

Footed Cocktail

Item Number:  21
Approximate Size:   2⅞″ H – 3 oz.
Production Dates:  1935-1970

The Fostoria American Footed Cocktail looks quite different from many of the other Drinkware pieces in the American line.  It has no stem whatsoever, so it is fairly easy to distinguish from the stemware.  A unique and classy piece of glass, it has a round foot that is substantial for its size.  It holds about 3 ounces, and is approximately 2⅞” high.  The Footed Cocktails were produced for approximately thirty-five years, so we can still find them without too much difficulty.

Even by today’s standards, the Footed Cocktail makes an excellent presentation piece for serving a wide range of cocktails and desserts.  With its beautiful shaped design and sturdy base, it is a great choice to use as a martini glass.  The Footed Cocktails are also wonderful for serving sorbet, gelato, and other delicious desserts in grand style.

Classic cocktail glasses have an inverted cone shape, and typically hold between 3 to 6 ounces.  They are used to serve cocktails without ice, or ‘straight up.’  Most cocktails have wonderful and interesting aromas, so the wide mouth of the Footed Cocktail allows the delicious scent to get very close to the nose of the drinker.

Wine

Item Number:  26
Approximate Size:  4⅜″ H; 2½ oz.
Production Dates:  1915-1982

Fostoria | American | Wine GlassesThis is the Fostoria American Wine Glass, with a Hexagon Foot.  It looks very similar to the 10 oz. Goblet that also has a Hexagon Foot.  The main difference is that the Wine glass is much smaller in scale and size than the 10 oz. Goblet.

The Wine glasses were produced for a very long time.  In fact, they are one of the pioneering pieces in the American line – being featured in the original 1915 Fostoria American catalog.  Because of their long production life, they are still relatively easy to find.

The popular American pattern kept the Fostoria Glass Company alive during the Great Depression. When one looks at these two beautifully crafted Wine glasses, it is easy to understand why.  They make a perfect pairing all by themselves!  They also look wonderful on the dinner table when paired with the 10 oz. Goblets.

Wine Polishing ClothsTo help keep your wine glasses looking their best, always try to wash them by hand.  After washing, use glass polishing cloths.  Microfiber polishing cloths work the best.  You can find more information on the specific cloths I use in the following paid link.  Full Disclosure:  I am an Amazon Associate; thus, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Footed Dessert (Hex. Foot)

Item Number:  05
Approximate Size:  4¾″ H – 4½ oz.
Production Dates:  1933-1982

This is the Fostoria American Footed Dessert, with a Hexagon Foot.  Out of the several dessert dishes that I talk about, this is the only dessert dish that has a hexagon foot.  There are other pieces in the Fostoria American line; however, that have a hexagon foot – such as the 10 oz. Goblet and 2½ oz. Wine.  The hexagon foot is a polygon with six edges and six vertices.

While there are published books that refer to this piece as a “Sherbet” – I do not. The reason I do not is because it was never classified or named a Sherbet by the Fostoria Glass Company.  When they introduced it in the 1930s, they called it a “Footed Dessert”.  Later on, as years passed, they started calling it a “Footed Dessert, (Hex. Foot)”.  The Sherbet dishes were first introduced in the 1920s; however, this particular Footed Dessert dish was not introduced until the next decade.

I feel the Fostoria American Footed Dessert, with a Hexagon Foot, is a bit more elegant than the Regular High Sherbet.  The Footed Dessert holds approximately 4½ ounces, and is slightly taller than the Regular High Sherbet by about ¼″.  The Footed Dessert is about 4¾″ tall.

The Footed Dessert was made for many years, so you should be able to locate them today without too much difficulty.  As an eBay Partner, I may be compensated if you make a purchase on eBay.  The following link shows available Footed Desserts on eBay.  Just remember, some people refer to these pieces as “Sherbets”, “Wine” or “Champagne” glasses. You might need to modify your search criteria to see if more inventory will pop up in your search results.
