Small Ice Tub Plate ~ Crushed Ice Plate

Item Number:  550-ITS
Approximate Size:  8″
Production Dates:  1915-1958

The Fostoria Glass Company produced two Ice Tub Plates in the American line. The one that we will be addressing in this post is the Small Ice Tub Plate, which was first produced in 1915.

Often, you will see the Ice Tubs sold without the Plate, and this could be for a variety of reasons. Over the years, people might have thought the Ice Tub Plate was just another ordinary plate and separated it from the Ice Tub – or the Ice Tub was originally bought separately (without the Plate).  For a view of the item that sits on top of the Small Ice Tub Plate, please refer to the Small Ice Tub.

As an eBay Partner, I may be compensated if you make a purchase on eBay.  The following link shows available Ice Tubs/Plates on eBay.  Please note that your search might offer very little results, as over the years, many Ice Tub Plates have been separated from their Ice Tubs.  However, keep searching because every now and again, you will see the correct duo listed.

Small Ice Tub Plate Storage BoxTo help prevent damage and to allow for easy identification and storage, I prefer to use storage boxes for all of my American plates.  The ones I use have hardboard sides and are sturdy, stable, and puncture-resistant.  You can find more information on the storage boxes that I use in the following paid link.  Full Disclosure:  I am an Amazon Associate; thus, I earn from qualifying purchases.  VENO Dinnerware Boxes (4 Sizes) with Lids.

One of the things I like about these boxes is that they have a transparent window panel that allows me to see the contents instantly.  Also included with the boxes are twelve plate protector sheets.  The side handles are reinforced and can hold the hefty weight of the plates.  They are extremely easy to move, and when not in use they can collapse and be stored flat.

I love the fact that I don’t have to worry about the safety of my plates anymore, the plates are easy to access, and the attractive boxes keep my pantry very organized!  ♥

Oval Platter – 12″

Item Number:  560
Approximate Size:  12″ L – 8½″ W
Production Dates:  1933-1973

Fostoria | American | Oval PlatterIn addition to a variety of dinnerware and accessories, Fostoria Glass also produced Tortes, Trays, and Platters in the American pattern.  The Oval Platter is one such example.  The Oval Platter was available in two sizes – a smaller 10½″ version, or the larger 12″ size. The picture in this post is that of the 12″ Oval Platter.

The Oval Platters should not be confused with the Oval Ice Cream Trays, even though they have the same shape.  They are two different pieces.  The quickest and easiest way to distinguish between the Oval Ice Cream Tray and the 12″ Oval Platter is to count the number of points around the dish.  The 12″ Oval Platter will have thirty-two (32) points.  The Oval Ice Cream Tray will have thirty-six (36) points.

The Oval Platters are quite substantial in weight and function.  They are still relatively easy to find, even in today’s times.  I seem to find more of them online than when visiting antique stores.  If a buyer saw them in person while treasure hunting, I have no doubt they would purchase them fairly quickly.

Handled Lunch Tray w/ Glass Handle

Item Number:  723
Approximate Size:  12” D
Production Dates:  1939-1973

Fostoria | American | Handled Lunch TrayThe Handled Lunch Tray is an item in the American line that rarely gets talked about.  While it is not a particularly common piece, it certainly is not rare either.  Thankfully, it is still fairly easy to find today.

The Handled Lunch Tray boasts a circular star burst handle that stands proudly above the center of the tray. The open handle design allows for easy finger access and handling.  The Tray is approximately 12 inches in diameter, and will prove to be a great server for a multitude of foods, appetizers and/or desserts.

American Whitehall 3-Toed Bonbon

Approximate Diameter: 6⅜”
Pattern: American Whitehall
Colors:  Clear Crystal, Evergreen, Peach

These Bonbon’s are from the American Whitehall line.  The Peach Bonbon will be added to the gallery in the future.  Fostoria American made 3 Toed Bon Bons (spelled differently) in Clear Crystal, Canary, Blue, Amber, and Ruby.

The toes on the American Whitehall Bonbons are peg-like, with a straight appearance.  Genuine Fostoria American Bon Bons will bear softly tapered toes, that flare out slightly.  This distinct difference is one of the easiest ways to tell the two items apart.
