Whitehall Dessert Set

Description:  Dessert Set
Pieces Included:  Saucer & Sherbet, Saucer & Dessert Nappy, or Salad Plate & Dessert Nappy
Pattern:  Whitehall
Colors:  Gold, Olive

The Whitehall pattern combined different items in order to make up the “Dessert Set”.  The set would usually include a Saucer; however, the second piece could vary from a Dessert Nappy to a Sherbet.  These two combinations work very well for the Whitehall Dessert Set.

There is another combination (which I have not yet seen published in catalogs), and that is using the Salad Plate and the Dessert Nappy.  I have an original packaging box from Colony Whitehall for an Olive Dessert Set, and it includes the Salad Plate and the Dessert Nappy.  So, even though I have not seen this pairing in their official catalogs, it does appear that they also considered the Salad Plate and Dessert Nappy to be another viable option for a Dessert Set.

As an eBay Partner, I may be compensated if you make a purchase on eBay.  The following link shows available Dessert Sets on eBay.

Please note:  the Dessert Set is not that common, and you probably won’t find many (if any at all) through the search results.  What you will find are parts of it – like the Dessert Nappy, Sherbet, or possibly the Saucers, by themselves.  You would need to build your own set if you were not lucky enough to find the sets already packaged together.  Simply modify the eBay search terms to include a Whitehall Dessert Nappy, Sherbet and/or a Whitehall Saucer in the Pottery/Glass category.

Oval Pin Tray

Item Number:  T-06
Approximate Size:  5¼″ L; 4¼″ W
Production Dates:  1916-1925

The Oval Pin Tray is a beautiful piece, and it’s considered a highly desirable item in the American pattern.  Other types of small Trays were made, such as handled and rectangular versions.  A smaller and similar Oval Tray was also offered; however, it was not a regularly-produced or cataloged item.  The Oval Pin Tray featured in this post has measurements of  5¼″ x 4¼″, making it the perfect size for a dressing table.

There are many production date discrepancies about this particular piece in the various published books on Fostoria American.  It does appear that the Oval Pin Tray was not in production for a long time.  Records are not complete on this item, and some catalogs don’t show a photo of it.  With a short life span, any remaining pieces that survived should certainly be considered a treasure to behold.

As an eBay Partner, I may be compensated if you make a purchase on eBay.  The following link shows available Trays on eBay.  Please note; however, that the Oval Pin Tray is not a common item – so chances are it might not be displayed in the search results.

Whitehall Pitcher / Jug

Description: Pitcher / Jug
Holding Capacity: 64 oz.
Pattern: Whitehall
Colors: Clear Crystal, Amber, Gold, Olive, Riviera Blue

This is the first and original Pitcher made in the Whitehall pattern.  It is slightly larger than the second variation, the 51 oz. American Whitehall Pitcher.  More colors were produced with this original version.

Measurements regarding holding capacity are approximate.  Earlier catalogs list their holding capacity at 65 oz. and later catalogs list it at 64 oz.  Colors can vary in hue – as their shades may range from light intensity to medium or darker tones.

American Whitehall Individual Salad Bowl

Description:  Individual Salad Bowl
Approximate Diameter:  5″
Pattern:  American Whitehall
Colors:  Clear Crystal, Peach

The Individual Salad Bowl is a smaller version of the bigger 9½” Salad/Fruit Bowl.  The Individual Salad Bowls were usually sold in a set of four (4).  They were mainly produced in clear crystal; however, they were also part of the American Whitehall Peach Collection.

Whitehall Salad Plate

Description:  Salad Plate
Approximate Diameter:  8¾”
Pattern:  Whitehall
Colors:  Clear Crystal, Gold, Olive, Riviera Blue

The Salad Plate is from the original Whitehall line and it is a substantial piece of glass.  It is very durable, and the pattern is very crisp and detailed – displaying a center circle of clear glass.  This plate, unlike the Snack Plate, does not have an indentation to hold a footed cup.

Syrup Plate

Item Number:  P-04
Approximate Size:  6″ D
Production Dates:  1938-1944

Fostoria | American | Syrup, Cover, and PlateThe Syrup Plate is the underplate that you usually see paired with the Syrup and Cover.  When it was featured in the Fostoria Glass catalogs, they showed the three items together – with a description of “Syrup and Cover and Plate”.  The plate diameter is approximately 6-inches, based on Fostoria’s own catalog descriptions and my personal measuring of the piece.  The Syrup Plate was actually made from the 6-inch Bread and Butter Plate.  Because these two plates looks so much alike, the Syrup Plates were often thrown in the Bread and Butter grouping and forgotten about.  The difference between them is faint, making it difficult at times to tell them apart.

The main difference between the two pieces is that the Syrup Plate will “usually” have taller side edges and a slightly deeper indentation in the center of the plate than the Bread and Butter.  That being said, it is not always the case.  Pieces that I personally own, and that I have witnessed at Glass Shows, will usually have sides that go slightly up from the center of the plate. This design creates a slight well for the Syrup to sit in, keeping the vessel more secure.

As an eBay Partner, I may be compensated if you make a purchase on eBay.  The following link shows available Syrups on eBay.  The Syrups are not a common item, so the search results will not be as plentiful as other pieces in the American line.  Some sellers sell the Syrup, Cover, and Plate together (if they’re lucky enough to have them), and some will sell the individual items separately.  Therefore, you might need to modify your search criteria accordingly.
