Measurements regarding holding capacity are approximate. Earlier catalogs list their holding capacity at 65 oz. and later catalogs list it at 64 oz. Colors can vary in hue – as their shades may range from light intensity to medium or darker tones.

The Individual Salad Bowl is a smaller version of the bigger 9½” Salad/Fruit Bowl. The Individual Salad Bowls were usually sold in a set of four (4). They were mainly produced in clear crystal; however, they were also part of the American Whitehall Peach Collection.

The Salad Plate is from the original Whitehall line and it is a substantial piece of glass. It is very durable, and the pattern is very crisp and detailed – displaying a center circle of clear glass. This plate, unlike the Snack Plate, does not have an indentation to hold a footed cup.

Production Dates: 1938-1944
The Syrup Plate is the underplate that you usually see paired with the Syrup and Cover. When it was featured in the Fostoria Glass catalogs, they showed the three items together – with a description of “Syrup and Cover and Plate”. The plate diameter is approximately 6-inches, based on Fostoria’s own catalog descriptions and my personal measuring of the piece. The Syrup Plate was actually made from the 6-inch Bread and Butter Plate. Because these two plates looks so much alike, the Syrup Plates were often thrown in the Bread and Butter grouping and forgotten about. The difference between them is faint, making it difficult at times to tell them apart.
The main difference between the two pieces is that the Syrup Plate will “usually” have taller side edges and a slightly deeper indentation in the center of the plate than the Bread and Butter. That being said, it is not always the case. Pieces that I personally own, and that I have witnessed at Glass Shows, will usually have sides that go slightly up from the center of the plate. This design creates a slight well for the Syrup to sit in, keeping the vessel more secure.

The Syrups are not a common item, so the search results will not be as plentiful as other pieces in the American line. Some sellers sell the Syrup, Cover, and Plate together (if they’re lucky enough to have them), and some will sell the individual items separately. Therefore, you might need to modify your search criteria accordingly.

The Salt & Peppers in the American Whitehall line were mainly produced in clear crystal. When they introduced their Peach Collection, the Salt & Pepper was included in that assembly. The peach color is the only colored Salt & Pepper that was made. Some folks refer to this color as pink; however, it’s true description and color from Indiana Glass is “Peach”.

Oval Description: Oval Bowl

This is one of the pieces in the Whitehall line that is often confused with the Fostoria American Oval Vegetable Dish, Item #836. Any easy way to distinguish between the two is to look at the bottom of each dish. The Fostoria American Oval Vegetable Dish has twenty-four rays, whereas the American Whitehall Oval Bowl has twenty rays (or petals) in their bottom design.
